Biography

Dr Sandra Smit is a registered homeopath and craniosacral therapist with a practice in Stellenbosch, and Muizenberg, Cape Town, South Africa. 

“I assist patients to deal with and overcome personal suffering in a way that is more than just symptomatic relief. The cause of suffering includes anything that may be holding a person back from living their full potential such as stress, anxiety, depression, physical or emotional trauma and disease. A holistic approach enables patients to gradually and safely ween themselves off current drug medication, which is suppressive by nature. Through a process of self-empowerment the patient acquires the ability to deal with issues and pain, attaining peace within themselves and in their relations while gaining a broader understanding of themselves as part of the cycle of life.”

“I completed a Bachelors Degree in 1992 at Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit, majoring in Psychology and Philosophy, followed by a 6 year course in Homeopathy at the University of Witswatersrand, Johannesburg. Working part-time at WELEDA homeopathic pharmacy in the centre of Johannesburg city helped sponsor my studies and provided first hand practical experience.

In 1998 I established a homeopathic department within a pharmacy in Plettenberg Bay. During this time I completed a thesis on the homeopathic treatment of chronic sinusitis and consulted part time under the supervision of Dr. Berkeley Digby for my Masters Diploma in Homeopathy.

During 2001-2004 I managed a health shop and practiced as a homeopath in Ireland. Here I first became acquainted with Craniosacral Therapy.

I returned to South Africa in 2005 to open a homeopathic and natural remedies department at Stellenbosch Square Pharmacy. I started my own practice at the Bliss Center in 2007, including a practice at Stepping Stones Rehabilitation Centre in Cape Town. With a special interest in Family Constellation Therapy I attended many workshops and brought invaluable aspects of a systemic overview to my practice.

I have always considered meditation as a vital aspect of holistic recovery, and in 2009 I joined a group of Psychologists, a Psychiatrist and the head of the Psychology Department of Stellenbosch University to establish a regular meditation program based on Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.

My current practice combine homeopathy and counseling with craniosacral therapy, bringing my special interest in holistic health, defined by good vitality and immunity, adequate energy levels and restful sleep, peace of mind and emotional well being, free from any condition that inhibits living life with passion and vigor while maintaining good relations with others and oneself.
